FIAA represents most of the FDI stock in Albania from different nationalities, mainly from Italy, Greece, France, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Egypt, UK, US, and a range of economic sectors such as banking and finance, construction, consulting, telecommunication, trading, hospitality industry.






FIAA MEMBERS MET WITH MR. EDI RAMA, LEADER OF THE SOCIALIST PARTY OF ALBANIA DURING A BUSINESS LUNCH

On May 14th 2009, at the initiative of FIAA Board of Directors at Sheraton Tirana was organized the business lunch with the participation of the Leader of the Socialist Party of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama.

The initiative aimed to better inform the FIAA members and the entire Foreign Business Community, as the biggest employers and contributors, on the program and the plans of the Socialist Party as a possible/future government which will support, collaborate and enhance existing investors and all those willing to come.

Mr. Patrick Pascal, President of the Association on behalf of the Board of Directors expressed special thanks to Mr. Rama and to his team for their presence and thanked all present members and guests such as EU, Foreign Press as well as the economical Attaches of the Embassies in Albania.

Mr. Rama after thanking FIAA for this opportunity expressed that: “The Socialist Party will give new governance to Albania, not only a new Government. The Socialists program is professionally elaborated by international and local experts of various fields but also through intensive dialogue with the people, such as teachers, farmers, students civil society in different cities and villages of Albania”.

One of the top objectives of the Socialists’ program is that of the Fiscal System, in order to strengthen and transform it for investors by facilitating for them and proving a professional administrative staff. VAT reimbursement which is a painful burden for all businesses will be added a fiscal incentive to support businesses in the phases of their activity.
Rural economy and agriculture will be the directions to be focused for the future of Albania together with tourism as the main potentials for investments in the country.

Improvement of infrastructure that has already began combined with plans of networking will make Albania part of the global market. The change is inevitable and will bring work, prosperity, and a better business climate. Vocational training will increase the quality and preparation of employees and IT infrastructure at EU levels will all assist to the economy of Albania and of the investors here”- expressed Mr. Rama.


Some of the questions the members made to Mr. Rama were:

1. Which are the Socialist Agriculture reforms? How does their program contribute to improvements in this sector?
2. VAT reimbursement and other fiscal measures?
3. IT infrastructure reforms and how will they be spread in the country?
4. Assistance to Mines and explorer companies?
5. How does this program contribute to the increase of businesses? Is training on human resources a key point?

Mr. Rama answered to all questions reassuring to be a very good listener to the voice of all foreign investors and of their concerns and to fully supporting them during their operations in Albania, if the Socialist Party will be the New Government of Albania.

Albania is a small country situated in South Eastern Europe in the West of Balkan Peninsula. It encompasses an area of 28,748 square kilometers, between 390 38' and 420 39' of North Latitude and 190 16' to 210 40' latitude, with a maximum length from north to south of about 340 kilometers and a maximum width of about 154 km.
